Maria Moldovanu (Hillingdon) - Care Worker of the Year
Monica, as she likes to be called, demonstrated compassion, professionalism and the ability to see beyond her client’s extremely challenging behaviour and see the person behind it.
Monica , as she likes to be called, demonstrated compassion, professionalism and the ability to see beyond her client’s extremely challenging behaviour and see the person behind it. Monica lives-in and supports a lady who is prone to rude and abusive outbursts which is extreme and occurs on a daily basis. Other staff refused to work with her because of her behaviour but Monica showed great patience and ignored her outbursts and focussed instead of supporting her, delivering great care and building trust. Through working using Positive Behaviour Support, Monica has been able to ‘reach’ her client and build a relationship with her.
Working three months on and two weeks off, Monica is very welcoming to other staff who cover her breaks and always completes a thorough hand over. She ensures incoming staff are aware of any issues and helps her colleagues understand how to handle her client’s behaviour.
Although English is not Monica’s first language, her verbal and written skills are excellent. She has great empathy for her client who has an extreme mental health condition. Her client’s social worker and CPN are delighted with the care given and the positive outcome Monica has achieved.
