Safe Oxygen Therapy Care and Saturation Monitoring at Home

Our oxygen therapy care helps you use prescribed oxygen safely at home. Your care assistant follows the plan set by your health team. Trained care assistants follow your agreed care plan and can support saturation monitoring where needed. We learn what matters to you. This helps you feel safe and independent at home.

Support Guided by Your Health Care Team

Your health team sets out how your oxygen should be used. We follow this guidance and learn how the equipment fits into your day. We also take time to understand your needs, choices and routine. If your needs change, we record this and follow the agreed steps. This keeps your care calm and consistent.

What is Oxygen Therapy Care?

Oxygen therapy gives extra oxygen to people whose blood oxygen level is too low. A healthcare professional must prescribe it after an assessment. The oxygen may come from a concentrator or cylinder. It is usually given through small tubes in the nose or a mask.

Oxygen therapy care at home helps a person follow their prescribed treatment. Trained care assistants follow the agreed care plan. They can support daily routines, safe equipment use, and saturation monitoring. A pulse oximeter may be used to check oxygen levels. They record and report any readings or changes as agreed.

Who Can Be Supported?

Caremark may support children, young people and adults who have been prescribed home oxygen therapy. This may be due to a long-term lung or heart condition. Other health needs can also cause low blood oxygen. Some people need oxygen for a short time as they recover. Others use it each day.

Support depends on a full assessment and what is available locally. We learn what equipment the person uses and the settings prescribed by their health team. We also check if saturation monitoring is part of the plan. Care can then fit around the person’s routine, comfort and goals.

Why Choose Home Oxygen Therapy?

Choosing oxygen therapy at home helps a person follow their prescribed plan in familiar surroundings. Trained care assistants learn how the equipment fits into each day. They can support oxygen routines and agreed saturation checks. They also respect the person’s comfort, choices and privacy.

Families gain peace of mind from clear records and prompt reports of any concerns. With consent, the Caremark team can work with relatives and health professionals. This helps keep support consistent. If the oxygen plan changes, we review the care so it continues to meet the person’s needs.

FAQs – Oxygen Therapy Care and Saturation Monitoring

Yes. Planning can start before discharge. With the person’s consent, the Caremark team can speak with hospital staff, the oxygen team and family members. We assess the care needed, check local availability and prepare a clear plan. Support begins once the right guidance, equipment and trained care assistants are in place.

Staff receive training for the tasks in each person’s care plan. This covers the prescribed equipment, oxygen safety, recording care and reporting concerns. If saturation monitoring is needed, they are trained to take and record the readings. Their skills are checked before they provide this support.

If it is part of the care plan, a trained care assistant can use the agreed pulse oximeter and record the reading. They follow the limits and action plan set by the health team. They do not set the target range or diagnose a change.

Selected Caremark teams may support either treatment after a full assessment. High-flow nasal oxygen uses specialist equipment. It provides warmed and humidified oxygen at a much higher flow than standard home oxygen. The health team prescribes the device and settings. The oxygen supplier installs and services it. Caremark follows the agreed plan and confirms that trained care assistants are available.

Only selected Caremark teams offer this service, so we first check local availability. The cost of Caremark care depends on the support needed, the number and length of visits and where the person lives. Some people may receive help from the NHS or another health or social care body after an assessment. The funding body makes the final decision. Your local team will provide a clear quote.

Contact your local Caremark team by phone or through our online form. We will listen to your needs and ask about the oxygen prescription, equipment and support already in place. With your consent, we can speak with family members and health professionals. If the service is available locally, we will complete an assessment, create a care plan and agree when support can begin.
