Claire Teale (Redcar & Cleveland)
Working with her Field Care Supervisor, Claire quickly reports issues, is observant of client concerns and asks for help if extra care is needed.
One of her customers is a full time carer for their wife who has dementia. Claire's commitment to providing excellent care has changed both of their lives dramatically.
The client's husband commented: "She is always on time and if not early, so I can set off swimming earlier and treat myself to breakfast after my swim. She is very observant of my wife's changes in health, only today she had reported concerns about her breathing and asked my daughter who is a nurse to come and check.
"She encourages my wife to get out of her bedroom and even though she refuses for myself and family she agrees to do so for Claire. We originally thought Care Workers would not be accepted by her but she really enjoys seeing Claire. Claire encouraged my wife to eat and offers high calorie foods as she refuses food at the moment. She is very tentative and I often see her sat with her at the side of the bed holding her hand whilst she sleeps. If Claire arrives for her call and my wife is asleep some Care Workers would sit downstairs until she wakes, however Claire goes straight up and tries to wake her so they can do activities and talk together.
"Claire is very understanding of my wife's illness and understands her past, she helps my wife reminisce and its lovely to hear them chatting away about our memories together. She is an absolute treasure and we are over the moon to have her as our main and regular carer"
As well as day-to-day care, Claire recently had to deal with a suicidal client. She remained calm, contacted her Field Care Supervisor and stayed with the client an extra two hours, to ensure they remained safe and did not harm themselves.
Claire has blossomed into a fantastic Care Worker and we are really proud of her.
