Callum Hassan

As the new franchise owner induction has just concluded, we extend a warm welcome to the latest addition to the Caremark franchise network, Callum Hassan of Caremark Warrington!

We sat down with Callum to find out more about what he thought of the induction training, the onboarding process so far, what he’s looking forward to and why he’s chosen to start a franchise with us.

So, fresh out of our 8-day induction training, what did you think to it? Is there anything that stood out?

“It’s been very slick. What stood out to me was the support available and how nice the Caremark team are. Anything you ask for wasn’t a problem and I think the course has been well structured as well. It’s intense but not too intense, its just the right amount of time I believe.”

What first drew you to Caremark?

“Me personally? It was about the customer service and the personal touch that Caremark offered. Any questions that I had (and there were a lot!) were always answered thoroughly and backed by evidence. Everything was done properly and that’s what drew me to Caremark!”

Why home care? It’s a bit of a change from your day-to-day!

“When I finished football, I always wanted to get into 3 industries: property, finance and care/funerals. The main reason why I chose care is because the UK is going to have a huge problem very soon with the ageing population and the second reason is because of the amount of care providers there are, I don’t believe everyone is doing a good job and I’d like to make a difference.”

What are you looking forward to the most about starting?

“Going back to what I just said, making a difference in my area. Hopefully providing a good quality service that Caremark strives for. I believe that the way I run my current businesses is all customer service led, I do what’s fair, and I’ll do the same in care.

We touched on it earlier, but how have you found the support so far?

“Excellent! There’s no faults at all.”

That’s nice to hear. You’ve said you’ve started businesses in the past, but could you tell us a bit more about them?

“Yes, I have properties and also a wealth management company. But I also used to run a Caribbean restaurant in Manchester when I was 19-22 years old. It’s still going now and it’s been franchised, now and there are 27, but I started with 3. Then I used that money from the sale of those businesses to buy a few properties, and used what was left over to start my wealth management company.”

So what made you want to start a care business? You’ve said you’ve always known you wanted to be in 3 industries, but why care?

“Care for me is a business that’s going to get high volume and will continue to get higher. The big thing for me was providing good quality service and making sure people are looked after. Unfortunately when I was a young lad, my mum had passed away and I feel if she had the right care and the right advice, she’d would still be here today.”

So a personal connection to it too. What did you do before Caremark apart from the other businesses?

“Before Caremark I was a professional footballer, playing for numerous teams like Newcastle, Middlesborough and Hartlepool. During that I had restaurants too. Then after that I got into property, and wealth management. My wealth management company is established now so I tend to have a lot of free time and spend a lot of time on holiday. This year I’ve already been on 16 holidays, and have 2 more planned!”

Oh wow! Are you a bit nervous to have less free time whilst setting up your Caremark franchise?

“Not nervous, excited. I hate being free! I can’t sit still and want to be doing something and although I’ll be giving up a lot, I’m excited to stuck into something that will keep me busy again.”

How do you think your background has helped you in running a franchise?

“I think its more about the customer service. If you look at my current businesses, all my reviews are 5* and most rated financial advice company in the north west, first on Google for some key search terms and we’ve won top adviser of the year. So every time I take an individual on board, where a lot of financial advice companies talk about fees and KPIS and bringing in money, we don’t. I’ve never once asked my staff about money at all, but about the service they provide the clients, how they’d handle a complaints etc.”

Which translates so nicely into domiciliary care. Is there anything else you would like to share?

“I just cant believe how smooth the process had been. I did look at competitors and was close to choosing another franchisor but I didn’t because of the service that David and the team all brought, and I feel like personal touch matters more than the figures that are put in front of you.

And why franchising?

“The business I have now isn’t a franchise but is run like one and I feel like when you’ve got somebody who is an expert in what you’re trying to get into and they provide the policies, procedures etc. in how to run your business and be compliant, as long as you copy that manual, there shouldn’t be any hiccups. So its a lot less expensive than that making a mistake with a new company. If you go on your own you’re open to every mistake out there but with a franchise you’re guided.”

Set up for success! Well, thank you so much for your time Callum, and we wish you the best of luck with Caremark Warrington!
