When Milly is caring for my daughter, I can leave the house knowing she is safe, understood, and cared for with genuine compassion.”

“That level of trust is priceless. She looks after my daughter with such patience, warmth, and dedication that I feel as though my daughter is being cared for by a member of our own family. As a mother, there is no greater gift than that peace of mind.”

Those words from Edyta Merena, the mother of a child with complex needs, capture the difference Milly Kiguru makes at Caremark Leeds.

Edyta says Milly consistently goes above and beyond. She also says that her “compassion, reliability, dedication and professionalism has had a profound impact on her family’s life.”

Incredibly rewarding

Before moving into care, Milly spent around six years as a golf coach in her native Kenya. She taught adults from corporate organisations and children from international schools. Golf remains a passion, and she still plays when she can. However, Yorkshire’s climate and a busy working life mean she is not on the course every day as she once was.

When the Covid-19 pandemic affected her coaching and business activities, an opportunity arose for Milly to come to the UK in 2022. Care was a natural fit. From a young age, she regularly visited children’s homes and homes for older people. She says she has always supported vulnerable individuals in her community, such as orphaned children, single mothers and families facing hardship.

Milly joined Caremark Leeds around 2024. She describes her time with us as “an incredibly rewarding to turn my lifelong passion for supporting vulnerable groups in to a structured professional impact.

“I value being part of a warm, supportive team and the most rewarding part of my role is building trusted relationships with my colleagues, customers and their families.

“Knowing that I can bring comfort, security and make a positive difference to someone’s life gives me a real sense of fulfilment.”

Using her experience to help others

Milly hopes one day to use the experience she is gaining in the UK to support communities in Kenya.

She adds: “My ambition is to actively drive and participate in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives that will create lasting, positive change for vulnerable people by ensuring our outreach programs deliver meaningful support, dignity, foster local partnerships and real empowerment to the individuals who need it most.

“I would also like to provide vocational rehabilitation services and a home for older people who do not have family support.”

These may be ambitious plans but, as Milly has shown, she is always ready to step up and take her best shot.

Outside work, she enjoys golf and travelling. Whether she is supporting a customer in Leeds or planning for her longer-term community goals, Milly is guided by the same principle – care should help people feel valued, emotionally secure and never alone.
