A new chapter in home care
Since joining Caremark Leeds in July 2026, Gladys Olorunmonu has embraced a new chapter that brings together care, learning and personal growth. Originally from Nigeria and now based in Bradford, she combines her work as a Care Assistant with a master’s degree in psychology. She studies at the University of Law in Leeds.
Before moving to the UK, Gladys studied and worked in Nigeria. She served as a secretary at the National Assembly of Nigeria, a role that gave her broad experience of working with and supporting people. While home care is a different environment, that people-centred foundation has helped her adapt. It has made it easier to handle her new responsibilities.
Gladys is open about the adjustment involved in starting her first personal care role.
She explains: “Learning how to understand each customer’s needs and preferences was challenging at first, but the experience has become easier as my confidence has grown.”

Built positive relationships
Gladys has already built positive relationships with several customers. She values the opportunity to help people remain in their own homes.
Her work also complements her academic interests. Studying psychology gives Gladys a theoretical understanding of people. In addition, care work offers practical experience of listening, communicating and responding to individual needs.
Keen to develop a career in care
“The role gives me a more practical background to add to my psychology studies,” she explains.
Gladys has not yet decided where life will take her after completing her master’s. However, she is keen to develop a career in care or a related field.
For now, her schedule is firmly focused on work and study. She is gaining valuable experience that can support whichever path she chooses.
