More than 25 years’ experience
Caremark Leeds is delighted to welcome Adam Smith as its new Registered Care Manager — a Leeds local with more than 25 years’ experience in care. He also has a genuine passion for supporting people to live well in their own homes.
From his first role as a part-time night care assistant in 1999 to leadership positions across residential care, supported living, complex care and psychiatric settings, Adam brings a depth of knowledge shaped by hands-on experience. Moreover, he has a clear commitment to doing care the right way.
His route into care was a personal one. Before starting his career, Adam spent time caring for family members, including his parents and daughter. He did this while his wife continued her education. That experience helped him realise how much of a difference good care can make. Furthermore, it set him on a career path he has never regretted.
“I realised it made a difference and I never regretted going into care — although I’d still have preferred to be a professional footballer,” he jokes.
A former colleague spoke positively about Caremark
Born and raised in Leeds, Adam knows the area well. He has also worked in domiciliary care locally, so joining Caremark Leeds feels like a natural fit.
He was already familiar with Caremark through a former colleague who had spoken positively about the company. When the opportunity came up in Leeds, Adam was keen to find out more. Now five weeks into the role, he says he has felt well supported by the team. In addition, he is already getting stuck in.
Adam describes himself as transparent, honest and principled — qualities he believes are essential in care management. He is focused on building trust, supporting staff and helping Caremark Leeds continue to move forward.
“I’m a person of principles and I want to do my part to help Caremark Leeds further improve and grow in a positive way,” he says.
It’s a really nice team
Away from work, Adam keeps busy with bouldering (rock climbing), Tibetan martial arts and family life. With four children and four grandchildren, there is rarely a quiet moment — but he wouldn’t have it any other way.
His martial arts training has also helped shape his approach at work. Adam says it has taught him discipline, calmness and the importance of staying positive under pressure.
“Happiness is a cure to everything,” he says. “As long as you maintain positivity.”
Adam has already been impressed by the people around him at Caremark Leeds, from the Care Assistants to the Field Care Supervisors and Care Coordinators.
“Some of the carers I’ve met have been really knowledgeable, pleasant and supportive,” he says. “It’s just a really nice team.”
