Last week, we had the pleasure of joining members of the Orpington and Bromley Gateway Club for a special visit to Scadbury Garden Centre — and what a fantastic experience it was!

garden centre

Set in the heart of the countryside, Scadbury Garden Centre isn’t just a beautiful green space — it’s a thriving hub of activity, inclusion, and growth. As part of the Gateway Club visit, we had the chance to explore the land, meet the amazing team and volunteers, and learn more about the wide variety of crops they’re growing. From herbs and leafy greens to root vegetables and fruits, the garden centre is alive with colour and purpose.

What made the day truly special was seeing the passion and teamwork from everyone involved. The Gateway Club, which supports adults with learning disabilities, plays a vital role in the success of Scadbury Garden Centre. Members contribute their time, energy, and dedication to maintaining the gardens and nurturing the crops — and it shows. The space is not only well cared for, but full of pride and positivity.

The work being done at Scadbury is more than just gardening — it’s about building life skills, fostering independence, and encouraging community participation. We were inspired by how every person involved is given a meaningful role, and how the environment supports their growth and wellbeing. It’s clear that the Gateway Club is integral to this effort.

As a care provider, we understand the importance of activities like this — not only for physical health but for emotional and social wellbeing too. The visit reminded us of how powerful community projects can be in helping people feel connected, valued, and empowered.
