Virtual Dementia Tour – training for Caremark Cambridge & South Cambridgeshire completed as part of our summer BBQ

There’s no place like home, and there’s no training quite like the Virtual Dementia Tour. At our Caremark Cambridge & South Cambridgeshire summer BBQ, the Virtual Dementia Tour – training Caremark Cambridge & South Cambridgeshire completed as part of our summer BBQ – brought an immersive, hands-on experience right to our doorstep. Our Care Assistants and office team stepped into the shoes of someone living with dementia to understand what day-to-day tasks can feel like. It was practical, moving and hugely valuable for the people we support.

This Caremark Cambridge summer event focused on building empathy and skills. By bringing dementia training on site, we made it easy for our team to learn together, reflect together and take those insights straight back into home visits.
What the Virtual Dementia Tour involves
The Virtual Dementia Tour is a guided simulation that recreates some of the sensory and cognitive challenges linked to dementia. With adapted footwear and gloves, sound and visual changes, and time-pressured tasks, colleagues experience reduced dexterity, altered perception and a higher cognitive load. It helps explain why instructions can be confusing, why environments can feel overwhelming, and why patience matters.
Each Caremark staff dementia training session includes a friendly briefing, short activities such as navigating a room or following simple steps, and a calm debrief led by trained facilitators. Because the tour is delivered in a self-contained vehicle, the Virtual Dementia Tour fitted seamlessly into our Caremark Cambridge summer event, so teams could take part without disrupting care. This is Caremark South Cambridgeshire dementia training that feels real, memorable and immediately useful.
How this dementia training helps our customers and families

- Calmer homes: we reduce background noise, improve lighting and contrast, and remove clutter to aid orientation and comfort.
- Consistent support: shared strategies across our team bring confidence and continuity for customers and their loved ones.
- Lasting impact: learning is reinforced through supervisions, care plan reviews and ongoing reflective practice.
Our approach is simple and human. We combine heart and know-how so customers feel safe, respected and at ease in the place they love most.
