First-hand experience pulled her towards care
At college Grace Wilson was torn between two possible career paths, both of which involved helping the vulnerable. Joining the police was one option, but in the end it was her first-hand experience watching carers support her aunt Carmen that persuaded her to choose the health sector instead.
“I wanted a job where I could make a difference and studied uniform protective services at college,” said Grace. “Then seeing the difference that carers made to my aunt, that’s what made me choose the health sector.”
Sadly, Carmen passed away however her legacy lives on as Grace carries out home care support everyday in her memory.
“I have found that the smallest of things that we would take for granted can make such a difference to someone’s life,” she said.
“With one lady when the work is done I just spend a few minutes brushing her hair in a style she likes, she told me it makes her happy for the rest of the day.”

Grace is gaining more qualifications whilst working
Since joining our home care support team Grace, 18, has completed training in medication, foods and equipment including hoists and rotunda to enable her to provide the best care. She is also due to start studying for her Health and Social Care qualifications whilst working with Caremark Mansfield and Ashfield.
Outside of work she likes to spend time with her mum and “best friend” Chantelle, who has also been a carer, and her one-year-old baby sister Molly-Mae – with trips to Wales a favourite.
Making a difference to peoples’ lives
Looking to the future she hopes to pass her driving test and develop her career further.
“I’m looking forward to my future making a difference to more people’s lives and I would encourage anyone thinking of a caring career to go for it,” said Grace.
“Carers make more of a difference than people realise, it’s the most important job in the world making people’s lives just that little bit easier.”he conclusion subheading should also include the keyword for the article if possible)
