Her ability to see customers as individuals
Described as a “shining star” at the recent Caremark Leeds Bradford carer awards, Milly Kiguru was nominated for her ability to see customers as individuals. She does not see them as a task.
Caremark prides itself on its client-focussed approach to home care support. Milly has embraced that since joining two years ago.
“You need patience and a passion for the job,” said Milly. “Most Clients will often be living alone, we may be the only people they see and it is important to focus on them and their needs.”
At school in Kenya Milly was keen on nursing and one day running her own business to help her local community.
Hopes to one day set up a company helping vulnerable people
With a degree in Marketing and diploma in Human Resource she hopes one day to set up a care in the community company delivering care to the vulnerable. In addition, she wants to empower women and girls and support others in need.
Milly recognised she will be best placed to run such a company if she has hands on experience of the care side. Therefore, she gained a post with Caremark Leeds Bradford.
“Caremark do look after their staff. There is always support and advice available and the hours work around your life. I do 45 hours per week which is ideal,” said Milly.
Complete training and care qualifications
Milly has taken the opportunity to complete training and care qualifications whilst working with Caremark. She plans to study for a Master’s degree in social work with Leeds University.
Outside of work she has used her time in England to combine her two passions of golf and travel.
A member of a Women’s golf club she has travelled across England and Scotland to play the game. She has also visited various European cities with a trip to a relative’s wedding in Bucharest next on the list.
