caremark leeds Phil Hammill

Despite suffering a stroke and a fall, Phil Hammill is determined to look on the bright side and enjoy the positives of life with the help of home care support.

“My care assistants are all fabulous, whichever one comes they are so consistent,” says Phil.

“Too many people spend all the time complaining, for me if someone does a good job you should say so and I can’t fault my care assistants.”

He adds: “It is important to me to be able to live in my own home and they help me to do that. They get me washed and shaved on a morning and make some breakfast  – I feel like a new man afterwards.”

Phil is aided by his wife Carol, but when she broke both her arms in separate falls Caremark were able to step in and help out with daily visits.

“The communication between ourselves and the office team is excellent and they go out of their way to support us too.  The whole of Phil’s team is like a “family” to us” says Carol.

She adds: “As his main care assistant, I feel very safe he is in their hands.  Thank you Team Caremark”.

Phil, 68, spent his working life with the printers John Waddington. He has a daughter and two stepsons and four grandchildren and is a keen sports fan.

Before Covid he used the Caremark “sports” service where a care assistants would take him to a local event.  He enjoyed trips to the cricket, rugby and football at Elland Road.  He’s now hoping for more trips as Covid restrictions have been lifted and likes to get out into the fresh air when he can.

“My only chance of getting out is if Carol or someone from Caremark can drive or take me down the park in my wheelchair and I enjoy that.

“I see us as a team that works well and I can’t say enough good things about them, it’s definitely helping me to look on the bright side.” says Phil.
