Kirandeep joined Caremark Leeds with a strong desire to make a positive difference in people’s lives. Originally from India, she moved to the UK three years ago to study for a master’s degree in International Business and Strategic Management at the University of York. Before moving into care, she gained experience in a range of roles. These included software engineering, hospitality and warehouse work.

Although care is a new professional direction for Kirandeep, its values have always been part of her life. Growing up, she was taught the importance of looking after older relatives, supporting children and treating others with kindness and respect. That cultural emphasis on family and community helped inspire her to become a care assistant.

“In my culture, our parents always teach us to care for our elders, like our grandparents, and to care for children as well. Those values have always been inside me,” she says.

Enjoying getting to know customers

Kirandeep discovered the Caremark Leeds opportunity on Indeed and was delighted to be invited for an interview. Her honest, people-focused answers reflected her natural approach to care. As a result, she was thrilled to be offered the role and invited to begin training.

“I went to the interview and answered the questions honestly, just as a normal human being would think about caring for others. When I received the email inviting me to training, I was so happy,” she adds.

Since joining the team, Kirandeep has enjoyed getting to know customers and building warm, respectful relationships with them. She describes the people she supports as friendly and kind. She values the opportunity to listen, understand individual needs and provide dependable support.

“I really enjoy my job. The customers are very friendly and very kind,” she says.

Delivering a high standard of care

As a walking care assistant, Kirandeep travels between visits by public transport. While the journeys can sometimes be demanding, she approaches them positively and plans carefully. She remains committed to reaching each customer and delivering a high standard of care.

For now, Kirandeep’s focus is on learning, developing her skills and becoming the best care assistant she can be. Looking further ahead, she hopes to use the experience she gains to build a long-term career in care. She may one day even establish a home-care business of her own.

“Right now, my main aim is to learn everything about how to be a good carer,” she adds.

Kirandeep lives in Leeds and enjoys the city’s multicultural community. In her spare time, she likes cooking, reading, watching reality shows and listening to TED Talks. She also enjoys celebrating festivals with colleagues from different backgrounds. This is an experience that reflects the openness, curiosity and warmth she brings to her role at Caremark Leeds.
