The support they receive at work

After winning the Team Culture award at the recent Caremark national conference we asked several members of our team (office staff and carers) to let us know what they thought about the support they receive at work. This is what they said:
Dale Smee, Care Coordinator, said: “There is open and honest communication and everyone supports each other. Our open-door policy gives staff the opportunity to attend the office whenever they wish. They are always made to feel welcome.
“In my role my approach is that by taking care of our staff they ultimately will take care of our customers. This enables the company to develop its ethos.”
Carer Gracious Muleya says she particularly values our respectful, family-friendly culture. She believes this is important to her as a single mum of a teenager.
“Here you are given your rota for two weeks and you are notified quickly if anything changes,” she says.
“This consistency gives me the ability to plan life as a single parent, something that was not possible at my previous company. And there’s never an issue if we have to go to appointments, they are always very flexible and accommodating.”

The supportive culture at Caremark Kirklees
Carer Cheryl Bateman says she feels well supported in her role. She appreciates that she can pop into the office or pick up the phone at any time.
“Everyone is very helpful and I definitely made the right decision by coming here,” she says.
Carer Darlein Chandra says one of the standout aspects of her experience has been the supportive culture at Caremark Kirklees.
“When I first started, the management didn’t feel like bosses or people high in authority,” she says.
“They felt grounded and like they really cared about the people working for them. Even now, if I call Fiona and tell her I’m having issues, she’ll immediately say, ‘Hold on, I’m going to tell Duncan,’ and they’ll discuss it further. They’re more than happy to talk to you.”
“There’s a great workplace culture here”
Jenny Quinn is one of our longest-serving carers. She appreciates the gifts she receives at Easter and Christmas, as well as the flasks all our staff were given to keep their drinks hot and cold.
She says: “Caremark are the best company I have worked for. The owners Duncan and Fiona are really nice and treat their staff well. The little things we receive throughout the year are nice, as are the Carer of the Year awards they organise which make you feel appreciated too.”
Office Administrator Kim Charlton says: “After over 20 years working in another environment it was a little nerve-wracking starting again at somewhere completely new, but I was appreciated from day one and it gave me back the self-belief I had temporarily lost.
“There’s a great workplace culture here which defined by openness, listening, support and genuine care, not only for customers but for one another.
“The staff in the office staff make it a priority to support carers in the field, whether it’s rota concerns, shift issues, or personal worries. The first instinct is always to say come in and let’s talk about it and it’s a company which listens.”
