Family is very important

Family is very important in Nigeria and it’s one of the reasons which led Oyindamola Jakande to Caremark Doncaster.
In her case, she helped to look after both her father and father-in-law, and this gave her an insight into what being a carer was like.
In May 2023, she came to the UK on the overseas sponsorship programme and began working as a carer for Caremark.
She came with her partner and their three sons, and all have adapted well to life in Doncaster, although her husband still spends a lot of time in Nigeria due to work.
As English is taught as a second language in Nigeria, this has made the settling in process much easier, and Oyindamola says she has been made to feel very welcome.
“I have a big family and have always loved taking care of them, so becoming a professional carer was no different,” she says.
“My customers are all wonderful and they area always happy to see me, so it’s nice to know I am helping to make a difference.”
When she’s not working, Oyindamola enjoys spending some quality time with her family, and catching up on her sleep!
