Mental Health Awareness
Last week was Mental Health Awareness Week 2024 in the UK. Mental health awareness is the focus of our monthly “hot topic” for May.
Our Trainer, Jenny, helped by Lola, focuses on a hot topic each month and creates a board like the one below which is shared with our team. This not only focuses our employees’ minds on the needs and any conditions of our clients but also of colleagues, friends and family.
Here are some points raised about mental health awareness from the board:
Mental health encompasses our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It significantly influences how we think, feel and act, as well as our ability to handle stress, relate to others, and make health choices.
Depression
Depression is a mental health problem that involves having a low mood or losing interest and enjoyment in things. It can also cause a range of other changes to how you feel or behave.
The symptoms you experience may vary. How intense they are, how long they last, and how much they affect your daily life can also vary.
Anxiety
Anxiety is what we feel when we are worried, tense or afraid – particularly about things that are about to happen, or which we think could happen in the future.
When we feel that we are under threat, anxiety is a natural human response . It can be experienced through our thoughts, feelings and physical sensations.
Dementia and depression
Depression and dementia share many of the same symptoms, including difficulty concentrating, not wanting to socialise and not being motivated. You may worry you have dementia when you have depression.
