Becky Hime’s life has taken her to different places and through many changes. Having a father in the Royal Navy meant Becky having a nomadic childhood. Belgium and the USA being two of the places the family lived when she was younger.

She later made her home in Cheltenham, where she has spent most of her adult life. As a young woman, Becky worked for the Ministry of Defence. However, her health began to change the path she had imagined for herself. Already living with a disability, she developed cellulitis in her early twenties and later osteomyelitis, a serious bone infection. As her mobility reduced, she began using a wheelchair in her twenties. She was then medically retired shortly before her 30th birthday.

Around the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, Becky underwent below-knee amputations of both legs. It was another enormous change. But she faced it with the practical resilience she had built over many years as a wheelchair user.

Light touch care for such an independent woman

Becky received support from another home care provider for six years. But when they ceased operating, she was referred to Caremark in 2025.

After so many years with a familiar provider, the change understandably brought some uncertainty. Inviting carers into your home is deeply personal. It takes time to build trust, learn one another’s ways and create routines that feel right.

Our carers help Becky get up and dressed, have breakfast and take her medication. They return in the evening to get her ready for bed. It’s very light touch care with the visits providing dependable help with the things Becky needs assistance with, while leaving her free to manage the many parts of life she can, and wants to, do for herself.
