Kevin

Kevin Hewitt’s 30-plus years driving the length and breadth of Redcar and Cleveland has stood him in good stead as carer – but being a good driver is just one of many reasons why he is so good at his job.

You don’t need to take our word for it; just ask the seven customers who submitted nominations for him in our 2022 carer of the year awards.

In fact, he received so many, he was recently named the carer of the year for the Middlesbrough and Guisborough region.

Kevin has worked for Caremark Redcar and Cleveland for eight years, having previously driven for Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and then Coast and Country Homes, the housing association which was formed to manage the authority’s housing stock.

It means that Kevin certainly knows his way around the area, but as you will see from some of the following comments from customers who nominated him, he is definitely in the driving seat when it comes to delivering high quality care.

“Kevin is always reliable, kind, caring, nothing is too much trouble. He is always pleasant and cheerful. He is always sensitive in his approach to looking after me.”

“Kevin is a lovely person and someone you can welcome into your home. He is always on time and cheerful.”

Kevin says: “Moving in homecare appealed to me because I have always considered myself a caring person and it meant I could still continue my passion for driving.

“I was touched when all the comments from my customers were read out to me; it means a lot when you hear such nice things about yourself.

“Being a carer gives me great job satisfaction and I would recommend it to anyone – after all if you don’t try it, you will never know!).

Outside of work, Kevin has his hands full looking after the ‘menagerie’ he has in his home, namely tropical fish, parrot, tortoise and a daschund!
