A record number of nominations from customers

For the second year running Kerry-Anne Silk-Reeves has been named the Guisborough/Middlesbrough Carer of the Year. She received a record number of nominations from customers.

Comments included:

“Kerry-Anne listens and does exactly everything I ask of her. She gets on with every task whilst conversing with me throughout the calls. Kerry goes above and beyond for me. She is all I ever want from a carer and I couldn’t ask for anyone better.”

“As we are caring from afar, it is invaluable that we know someone is taking good care of our relative and genuinely seems to care for her. Kerry Anne certainly goes the extra mile.”

“Kerry gets on with every task whilst conversing with me throughout the calls. She goes above and beyond for me.”

“She is genuinely invested in caring for R. Making sure she can enjoy her shopping by getting her a wheelchair, packing, and unpacking her shopping. Checking sell by dates to make sure food is in date and collecting her medi-packs each week.”

Caremark are an amazing company to work for

Kerry-Anne believes a good carer will not only support people in their homes but also encourage them to become more active. One way to do this is through the Community Call service. It helps customers get out and about, engaging in activities.

Kerry-Anne is always on the lookout for possible new venues. One recent success story involves a 92-year-old lady and a local bowling alley.

“I have two teenage children and we went to Hollywood Bowl. It’s indoors, warm and fun so I thought why can’t older people enjoy it?” said Kerry.

“I know the bowling alleys are quiet during the week, so it’s ideal to take customers to and they love it.”

It’s as much about being active in the community

Another lady felt she was becoming a burden to her family. Kerry told her about Community Call and now they use the time to visit Sainsburys every week.

“The lady really enjoys it, she gets her shopping in and feels it’s one less hassle for her family,” said Kerry.

She also uses Community Call to take a customer to visit a dear friend and former neighbour she hadn’t seen for years. Another enjoys trips to see her husband in a care home. In addition, garden centres and days out in Whitby are scheduled as well as SafePlace. SafePlace is regular coffee mornings where Caremark bring clients together to enjoy a chat, cuppa and an activity.

And this may seem a small thing, but Kerry helped a customer make a snowman for the first time in years, which they loved.

“I have had a few clients this year who are new to the home care system,” said Kerry-Anne.

“They have been surprised that it’s as much about getting active as support around the home. It’s given them a new lease of life and its very rewarding to be part of that.”
