Caremark Oldham Newsletter – August

In this issue of our August 2026 Newsletter we look back over challenges that face businesses in the summer holidays. We also welcome new members of the team and highlight an amazing customer’s story.
What is in this Issue
The August issue celebrates National Dog Day with our favourite furry friends and a joyful mix of birthdays.
This edition introduces our Care Assistant of the Month and welcomes a brilliant new cohort joining the Caremark team.
We also share an uplifting case study that shows how one customer’s life changed beautifully through our care.
Reflections of the Summer Months
As summer draws to a close, it’s been heartening to see our team continue delivering exceptional care through seasonal challenges.
While many people take time to enjoy holidays, family time and the sunshine, the care‑at‑home sector never pauses. Our customers rely on the same dedication and attention every single day.
This year’s heatwave added extra pressure, with our team showing remarkable dedication to keeping customers safe and our care assistants hydrated.
The season brought added demands for our office team, but their resilience and teamwork, supported by our registered manager Charlene’s steady leadership, kept everything running smoothly. It wasn’t easy. Yet our remarkable colleagues pulled together and carried us through.
We’ve also welcomed a new group of care assistants to the Caremark family over recent weeks. We’re sure they’ll soon become familiar faces to many of our customers.
We’re already seeing the positive impact they’re making.
One lovely moment came from Abigail, one of our newest team members, who surprised Jean, a long‑standing customer, with a birthday cake.
Jean loves creating cards for her care assistants, so seeing her kindness returned made the moment even more special.
These moments remind us that care is more than tasks; it’s compassion, connection and noticing the little things. Everyday acts of kindness show who we are as a team and why our values matter.

Care Assistant of the Month
We’re delighted to announce that Noman has been chosen as our Care assistant of the Month for July. His dedication to delivering consistently high standards of support shines through in everything he does.
Multiple compliments have highlighted Noman’s professionalism, calm approach and the thoughtful care he brings to every visit.
A paramedic team contacted our office to share feedback from a recent emergency call. They praised Noman for his exceptional conduct, noting that he provided clear, accurate information and supported the team throughout.
His calm approach and quick actions helped the paramedics assess the situation safely and efficiently.
They were genuinely impressed by his professionalism.
“I just wanted to take this opportunity to say what a wonderful staff member Noman is. He is amazing with Brian and was an absolutely fantastic help this evening!”
“I just wanted to say I am bowled over by Noman’s dedication, kindness and caring nature towards Jude and our family.
He is so patient and understanding of Judes needs. So pleased that we have him!”
Wendy, Ben and Jude.

Noman always goes the extra mile for his customers, and many of you have seen his genuine commitment at our gatherings. He also loves bringing his regular customer Peter along whenever he can, adding a lovely sense of connection and inclusion.
Noman’s reliability, compassion, caring nature and person‑centred approach make him a true credit to our team.
Welcome to our New Care Assistants
In recent weeks we have welcomed a new cohort of care assistants to the Caremark Oldham team. They’re settling in well, and we’re sure they’ll soon become familiar faces to many of our customers.
Training our new care assistants is a crucial part of their journey into Caremark. It takes time and patience from our Manager and FCS team to ensure they gain mandatory skills. They must also embrace person‑centred care before working independently.
We also rely on our experienced care assistants to provide shadowing opportunities and share their wisdom and knowledge.
This team effort helps build a strong, confident workforce and reflects the supportive culture we’re proud of.

Gordon- a remarkable story with Caremark Oldham
This month we’re sharing an insight into a case study about one of our new customers. We are offering a heartfelt snapshot of Gordon’s journey and the impact of person‑centred care.
After a difficult hospital discharge, his family, our Caremark team led by Asiya, and other professionals came together to rebuild his safety, comfort and independence.
With daily support and the unwavering dedication of his grandson Gareth, Gordon regained strength, confidence and joy. Today, he’s enjoying time in the garden and chatting with care assistants. He is also rediscovering the hobbies he loves, a transformation shaped by compassion and teamwork.
We’re grateful to Gordon’s family for allowing us to share this story, and the full version will be posted on our website soon.

Live-in Seminar
Our Business Manager, Aileen, accompanied Charlene, our Registered Manager, to Caremark’s live‑in seminar in Manchester.
It was the hottest day in August, but a beautiful day to enjoy some time out of the office.
The seminar was insightful, led by our Regional Managers Jo and Leigh, with a guest session on recruitment from Laura at Indeed.
Home is full of memories and routines, and live‑in care helps you keep them.
Caremark firmly supports the evidence that, wherever possible, care is best delivered in someone’s own home. This allows them to be surrounded by familiar spaces, daily habits and treasured possessions.
You choose your rhythm, from meals to hobbies, while your Care Assistant supports what matters to you. Whether that’s staying close to a beloved pet, attending worship or meeting friends, they are here for you.
For people living with dementia, familiar surroundings can ease confusion and support a calmer day.

National Dog Day
National Dog Day is celebrated every year on 26 August. National Dog Day honours all dogs, from beloved pets to incredible working dogs and therapy animals.
Founded in 2004, the day also helps promote adoption from shelters and rescue centres.
Moreover, not everyone owns a dog, but pet therapy is widely recognised for its huge impact on well‑being, especially for older adults or those living with a condition. As a result It can ease loneliness, bring comfort, and give people a real sense of purpose in their day. In turn, it supports both mental and physical health.
The love of a dog is unconditional, uncomplicated and often described as true love.
Furthermore pet therapy in care homes, hospitals, schools and community settings shows just how powerful these moments can be.
We are celebrating National Dog Day by sharing some of our wonderful customers’ and staff members’ dogs… aren’t they all adorable!

Looking forward
As we round off the summer months, it’s time to look forward to exciting things for Caremark Oldham. Aileen, our Business Manager, will soon be on the road with our Regional Manager Jo. Together, they will be visiting local community groups and events to strengthen community links and explore new ways to support local initiatives.
We’re also looking forward to meeting other Caremark branches to share ideas and best practice. This will help us bring you the very best Caremark has to offer.
A visit to a local branch’s coffee club is also planned, and it’s something we’d love to introduce here in Oldham for our own community.
September also shines a spotlight on dementia, with World Alzheimer’s Day on the 21st. Raising awareness is vital for people living with dementia and the families who support them. Click here to read more about how you can support Alzheimer’s Society during September’s Dementia Awareness Month, or discover the support they offer.
Caremark Oldham is committed to training our Care Assistants so we can support our customers through this journey. Next month we’ll be taking a deeper dive into dementia in care at home and sharing more on this important topic.
