As a home care provider, Caremark Cardiff & The Vale offer support to vulnerable people in our community to enable them to live independently at home. Many of our customers are living with Dementia, so require a certain level of care and understanding which all of our carers are highly trained in.
Part of the care we provide is ensuring our customers are out in the community; whether that’s doing a bit of shopping, going for a coffee and cake, or just a walk in the park. However, studies have shown that many people with dementia feel like that they are still part of their local community and few feel like they can still go out and do every-day tasks.
With new technologies such “Chip & Pin”, “Contactless Payments” and the hustle and bustle of people’s busy lifestyles and lack of time, a simple task of going to the shop to buy a pint of milk can be a minefield of stress, anxiety and confusion for someone with Dementia.
This is why at Caremark Cardiff & The Vale, we are working with Alzheimer’s Society and starting a campaign to make business around Barry and The Vale of Glamorgan more Dementia Friendly so that they can take the steps needed to ensure some of our most vulnerable members of our community feel confident enough continue doing the things they love, for as long as possible.
We will be sharing a series of information, tips and advice for businesses on Dementia, the struggles people have, and what they can do within their own business on our blog and on our social media. Find us on Facebook and/or Twitter or follow the hashtag #WeAreDementiaFriendly. If you are a business in Barry or The Vale of Glamorgan and have already taken steps to be Dementia Friendly, please get in touch as we’d love to share your progress!
