Tina exudes enthusiasm for the role of carer

“Tina is my little ray of sunshine!” “It’s a genuine pleasure to see her walk through the door.” “She treats me with great respect.” “She exudes enthusiasm for the role of carer.”
These were just some of the comments which resulted in Tsungai Shumbayaonda, or Tina as everyone knows her, winning our 2025 Care Assistant of the Year Award. 25 other carers were nominated by their customers. In addition, some management awards were also given out. So it was a tremendous achievement to win.
As well as the strong relationships she builds with customers, hence the reason for their nominations, we also wanted to recognise Tina for the rapport she develops with the families of the people we support. This rapport helps everyone feel confident that care is being delivered with dignity and attention to detail.

Her passion for care began at home
Originally from Zimbabwe, Tina’s passion for care began at home, where she helped to look after her grandparents. She moved to the UK three years ago. After working with another care provider, she joined Caremark Cheltenham & Tewkesbury two years ago.
“One of the most important things I enjoy is building relationships with the people that I support,” says Tina.
“Many of them appreciate not just practical help, but also the companionship.
“The best thing about being a carer is knowing I can make a little difference in someone’s day, no matter how small. That feeling is priceless.”
Tina brings empathy and hope to every call
Ade, a long-standing customer of Caremark Cheltenham & Tewkesbury, was among those who nominated Tina for an award. He was praised for arriving “jolly” and bringing empathy and hope to every call, while consistently following his care plan.
Tina says: “I was very surprised when I discovered I had won the award but it’s great to know I am appreciated for what I do and I think it shows that hard word really does pay off.”
When she is not working, Tina enjoys spending time with friends, meeting for coffee, going to the cinema and watching documentaries.
