What can I do to prevent and control infection?
Good hand hygiene is essential – wash your hands regularly and change gloves between tasks.
Social distancing.
Testing yourself.
Self-isolating.
Keep your nails short, clean and free from varnish.
Ensure jewellery is kept to a minimum.
Keep your home clean i.e. regularly dispose of clinical waste, such as incontinence pads.
Wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
What can happen if I don’t prevent and control infection?
The impact of infection is wide ranging from the superficial to life threatening and includes social, psychological and physical effects.
Physical Effects
- Pain.
- Longer recovery time.
- May need hospitalisation.
Psychological Effects
- Increased anxiety and stress.
- Increased fear.
- Increased frustration.
Social Effects
- Family members and/or friends will not be able to visit.
- You will not be able to get out into the community.
