Caremark Cheltenham & Tewkesbury donates much needed provisions to the Cornerstone Centre’s Food Pantry – Part 1
When hearing about the Cornerstone Centre’s Food Pantry project, Mike Folkes, our Director, wanted Caremark Cheltenham and Tewkesbury to be involved. He wanted to help this much deserving community project. It has always been Mike’s aim since joining Caremark to give back to the community.
Therefore, Mike and Beth visited the Cornerstone Centre in Cheltenham last month with a trolley food of provisions. This included food and much needed personal household and hygiene items.
Mike, and his supportive Caremark Cheltenham & Tewkesbury team, want to continue helping the Food Pantry. So much so they plan to visit regularly with their trolley full of donations. Giving back to a community project such the Food Pantry very much sums up Caremark Cheltenham’s ethos.
Why?
The Cornerstone Centre is a community centre in Cheltenham. The Cornerstone Centre was built specifically in 2000 for the purpose of helping its community.
How does the Cornerstone Centre help its community?
The centre runs activities such as baby and parent groups, bingo, art sessions, and exercise classes etc. It also offers event space for hire, runs a low cost café, a low cost charity shop and the Food Pantry.
The Cornerstone Centre also offers a much needed early children development service, helped by a music therapist. Volunteers help run the centre but of course, like all charitable organisations, Cornerstone need more volunteers.
What is the Food Pantry?
The Cornerstone Centre’s Food Pantry allows people from its community to visit and spend £4 to buy much needed food and household items. With the £4 visitors are able to buy 2 items from the fridge and 8 items from the pantry and as much bread and fruit as is needed. (However, this does depend on stock levels). Cornerstone’s Food Pantry feeds approximately 200 families in its community, which covers Whadddon, Insworth, Priors and Oakley.
