A really caring person who is always happy
Suraj is just amazing and a really caring person who is always happy and joyful. He played Hindi pop music to my husband which he really enjoyed. In fact, he even got him to do a jig to it.”
That’s a perfect example of person-centred care. It is also one of the many reasons why Suraj Kumar was named our Care Assistant of the Month for April.
Suraj joined Caremark Cheltenham and Gloucester in November 2025. He is originally from Delhi, India. He came to the UK to continue his studies and completed a Diploma in Business and Accounting at Birmingham City University. During that time, he discovered a real passion for care. Therefore, he decided to build his career in the sector.
“After working part-time in care, I realised how much I loved it and knew this was the career I wanted to follow,” he says.
He has built a strong foundation in care
Since then, Suraj has built a strong foundation in care, working with several providers before joining Caremark. He says the level of support he receives here has stood out from anything else he has experienced before.
Suraj adds: “The support from the Caremark office has been fantastic. The team is always there to help, whatever the situation.
“One morning my car broke down at 6am and after a call to the office, my visits were immediately covered and alternative arrangements were put in place so I could walk to customers’ houses.”
Suraj’s warmth, positivity and cheerful approach to care have made him a favourite with customers and their families.
Carer of the month
Knowing one of his customers was called Jim, at one visit Suraj started singing the classic Hindi pop song “Jimmy Jimmy Aja Aja”. Now he plays it to the gentlemen at each visit, much to his delight.
Suraj says being awarded Carer of the Month meant a great deal to him.
“When you work hard and that effort is recognised, it feels really special,” he says.
“When you visit a customer with a cheerful smile, it helps make their day a little brighter and that’s one of the may things I like about being a carer.”
Outside of work, Suraj enjoys playing cricket and exploring some of the UK’s best walking and hiking spots. He has already trekked in Wales and the Malvern Hills and hopes to discover even more.
