Good care begins with trust
For Caremark Great Dunmow Care Assistant Daisy Masaraure, good care begins with trust. Since joining us in August 2023, she has built close relationships with customers by taking time to understand them, helping them feel comfortable in their own homes and providing support in a way that respects each person’s needs.
Daisy came on a sponsorship after previously working in care in Zimbabwe. Before moving into professional care, she spent almost 19 years as a Procurement Officer, buying and managing supplies so her organisation had what it needed. That background gave her a strong sense of responsibility, organisation and reliability — qualities she now brings into her care work.
Her first experience of care was deeply personal. In Zimbabwe, Daisy supported a neighbour who was diabetic and had undergone a leg amputation, later joining a group that helped people in rural communities. Although she says the set-up was very different from care work in the UK, the purpose was the same – making sure people had the support they needed.
Learning to build confidence
Starting a new role in a new country was not without challenges. Daisy says working in home care meant meeting many different people and earning their confidence from the moment she stepped through the door.
Some customers were unsure at first, but she focused on talking with them, making them comfortable and showing that she could be trusted.
“Once you get their trust, you are able to support them,” Daisy says. “If you don’t get somebody’s trust, it is so difficult.”
That patience has helped Daisy form strong relationships with several customers. She says regular visits allow her to understand what each person needs, what makes them comfortable and how best to support them day to day.

Treating every customer as an individual
One example is Janet, a customer recovering after a stroke who wanted to attend her grandson’s wedding. Daisy supported Janet closely, visiting up to four times a day and learning to read her facial expressions when speech was difficult. Over time, Daisy came to recognise when Janet was comfortable, when something was wrong and what support she needed next. Helping Janet reach such an important family occasion was a proud moment, but for Daisy it was also part of the wider work of listening carefully and treating each customer as an individual.
Daisy says the most rewarding part of the job is knowing that her work has improved somebody’s day. Whether she is helping someone feel settled, reporting changes in a care plan or simply spending time with a customer who needs reassurance, she finds satisfaction in making a practical difference.
“By the end of the day, there is satisfaction within my heart,” she says. “I feel that I have made a difference in somebody’s life. I did not know I had this passion for care until I reached this place.”
Patience and trust
Care is also part of Daisy’s family life. Her husband works as a carer supporting people with complex needs, while her two daughters are social workers, one in the UK and one in Zimbabwe. Away from work, Daisy enjoys attending church in Southend on Sundays when she is not on shift.
For Daisy, care is about patience, trust and truly getting to know the person behind each visit. It is that approach, she says, that helps customers feel supported — and helps her end each day knowing she has made a difference.
