Finding the right fit for her life

For Yvonne Richardson, changing careers was about more than finding a new job — it was about finding the right fit for her life and her family. After many years working in finance in London, she was ready for something closer to home and more personally rewarding.
Taking a step into care turned out to be a life-changing decision.
“I fell in love with it because it’s the best thing ever and I only wish now I had done it sooner,” says the mum-of-two.
For Yvonne, the greatest reward is knowing she has made a real difference to someone’s day.
She adds: “When you leave somebody, and you know that you’ve made such a positive difference to their lives, you really do get a bit of a kick out of it.”

The flexibility a career in care can offer
Yvonne is also passionate about the flexibility that a career in care can offer. For people with families or other commitments, she believes it can be a role that fits around life while still being deeply rewarding.
“If you can make somebody smile and make their day a bit better just having a conversation with them, then what is not to like about that,” she says.
In March 2026, Yvonne moved into the office team, which she combines with her role as a Senior Care. In this newer role, she helps to co-ordinate care, support rotas and make sure customers receive the highest standard of service.
The best of both worlds
Her promotion reflects both her experience and commitment, but she still values the opportunity to stay connected to the practical side of care through reviews, supervisions, spot checks and occasional field-based support.
This blend of responsibilities gives her what she describes as “the best of both worlds” — combining office-based organisation with direct customer contact.
In her spare time, Yvonne enjoys spending time with her two children, aged 16 and 10.
