Suzanne

For Suzanne Hammond, the support she receives from Caremark is about far more than just practical help – it plays an important role in making it possible for her to remain in the place that means so much to her.

She and husband Mark have lived in their home for 46 years, a place filled with memories of family life and the years spent raising their children.

Originally from Wales, Suzanne spent her early childhood there before moving to Essex at around the age of twelve, after her father changed careers and became a teacher. It was the beginning of a new chapter that would lead to a long working life, including a career in banking with Westminster Bank (now Nat West). She was involved in computers, gaining experience in an area that felt especially forward-looking for the time.

Later, after getting married to Mark in 1968, her working life took a different direction as she moved into other roles and then raised their two children. Today, Suzanne is also a proud grandmother of four.

The visits bring companionship and conversation

Caremark became part of Suzanne’s life after she returned home from hospital following a serious health setback linked to a stroke. For around five years now, we have helped Suzanne manage daily life at home through regular visits and support.

Our carers visit Suzanne four times a day, helping with personal care and medication, particularly during her bedtime call when she needs to take additional tablets. Just as importantly, the visits bring companionship and conversation.

Suzanne speaks warmly about this particular side of her care, saying: “The ladies who come in are all very nice and I really look forward to our chats.

It has made a big difference to her life

Asked whether the care has made a difference, Suzanne adds: “Yes, it has made a big difference to myself and Mark as it gives him some respite too.”

Now aged 78, Suzanne remains full of warmth and honesty when she talks about her life and the care she receives. Her story reflects exactly why home care matters so much: it helps people hold on to their independence, their routines and the comfort of familiar surroundings.

With our support, Suzanne can continue living at home, surrounded by the memories she and her family have built over nearly half a century, while enjoying the companionship and care that brighten each day.
