Barbara has lived in her home for nearly two decades and remaining there means everything to her. It is where her memories are, where she feels most at ease and where she wants to continue living life on her own terms.
Whilst her daughter lives less than an hour away, having reliable daily support from Caremark brings invaluable peace of mind to the whole family.
And with a diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease a few years ago, having the right support around her has now become even more important.
Barbara’s story begins not in Essex but northern England where she grew up. A proud Yorkshirewoman, before retiring she ran a joinery business in York with her husband Bill for 35 years, with her role being to look after the company accounts and administration

The couple moved to Essex 19 years ago to be nearer to their daughter and their grandchild.
“I’m a Yorkshire girl and I always will be but despite what people said before we moved south, we found everybody here very friendly,” she says.
Bill’s subsequent sad passing left an understandable void in her life, but she is well supported by her daughter and this support was widened by the introduction of Caremark in 2023.
Our carers visit three times a day and provide a routine built around Barbara’s needs, helping her feel safe, supported and cared for every step of the way.

“The girls are all very good and I look forward to seeing them each day,” she says.
“They help me to remain at home and I don’t know what I would do without them.”
