He did not want to leave the family home
When his father, Roy, died in 2025, Paul Golding faced the daunting prospect of living alone for the first time at the age of 58. Paul, who has learning difficulties and several medical conditions, was certain he did not want to leave the family home he had shared with his dad for the previous two decades.
“When Mum died 22 years ago, we moved to this house,” said Paul. “It’s where I know. Everything I have is here and it is where I want to stay.”
Our carers (we also used to care for his dad) visit Paul four times a day to check that he is well, prepare his meals, help with household tasks and provide companionship.
“I can get up and ready in the morning, but I am diabetic and there are certain foods I cannot have, so Caremark makes sure what I eat is suitable,” said Paul. “They have a chat and a laugh with me.”
Paul enjoys the social get togethers
The team is also helping Paul address his hoarding and manage his online spending, while supporting him to get out and about safely.
“I have mobility issues and can fall over, so the carers help me go shopping each week and take walks in the park,” said Paul.
Paul also enjoys the social get-togethers Caremark organises for clients at local community centres.
“They took me to a coffee morning where I met some new people,” he said. “There was live music, and we got up and danced. It was great fun.”
“They are perfect”
At home, Paul has a vast collection of DVDs, CDs and videos, including music by his favourite group, Bucks Fizz, and action films starring Schwarzenegger, Stallone and Van Damme.
Since his dad died, the Caremark team has also helped Paul keep his home tidy and supported him with home improvements.
“They are perfect,” said Paul. “They are kind to me, and I look forward to their visits.”
