Mental Health Awareness

From 12–18 May 2025, we’re joining millions around the UK in recognising Mental Health Awareness Week—a time to reflect on how we care for ourselves and each other.

This year’s theme is ‘Community’, reminding us that we don’t have to go through life—or challenges—alone. Whether you’re a carer, client, or loved one, being part of a supportive community can be life-changing for our mental health.

Why Community Matters in Home Care

In home care, community isn’t just where we live—it’s who we live with, who checks in on us, and who shows up for us.

For many of our clients, carers are their daily connection to the outside world. A smile, a shared laugh, or a few extra minutes of conversation can ease loneliness and spark joy. Likewise, carers thrive when they feel supported, valued, and connected to their team.

Did you know that people who feel part of a strong community are less likely to experience feelings of isolation, depression, and anxiety?

What Community Looks Like in Practice

  • A carer noticing when a client is unusually quiet and offering gentle support
  • Teams checking in on each other after a difficult shift
  • Clients feeling heard and respected in decisions about their own care
  • Group activities or companionship visits that spark real connection
  • Volunteering or supporting local centres that bring people together

Whether big or small, these moments build a foundation of belonging—and that’s what true community is.
