Ifemede

Having transferable skills is always a positive and Ifemade Nuberu’s background as a teacher in her native Nigeria means she was able to hit the ground running in her role as a Support Worker for Caremark Rotherham and Sheffield.

Ifemade joined us in 2023 and has progressed significantly through her training, moving from supporting clients with behaviours and epilepsy to confidently caring for some of our most complex clients.

We recognised her skills and gently over time, working closely with our Clinical Leads, we guided her through training in tracheostomy care, PEG feeding, suction and ventilator support.

Whilst these were new skills she had to learn, having been a teacher and being comfortable around children have certainly helped Ifemade to settle in a new job and a new country.

Ifamede has a real ‘can do’ attitude

Ifemade consistently goes above and beyond to bring genuine care to every client interaction and is always positive, approachable and reliable on shift. She has a ‘can-do’ attitude and has a made a clear and meaningful impact on both the people we support and the wider team.

Ifemade says aside from being a teacher, the historical culture of caring for family members in Nigeria has also played a big part in helping to become a great Support Worker.

“We are very good at taking care of people in Nigeria, for example I grew up caring for my grandparents, so it’s something which has always come naturally to me,” says Ifemade.

“Certainly, coming from a teaching background has also helped, although I have enjoyed learning about complex care and supporting young people.”

A range of support for our young clients

Ifemade provides a range of support for our young clients, including clinical care such as tracheostomy care and peg feeding, through to taking them out into the community to take part in activities.

“I love working with young people and helping them to live a fulfilled life as possible,” says Ifemade.

“I get great support from my colleagues and I am very happy in my job.”

Outside of work, Ifemade enjoys spending time with her sister and little nephew, who live close by, as well as going out with friends and exploring.
