he is Incredible and now it’s official!

Colleagues and clients of Andrew Uwareme have always known he is Incredible and now it’s official! Andrew is one of only ten people out of 6,500 care workers to be named as a finalist in ‘The Incredibles’. This is a national award bestowed by the national Caremark organisation. It was open to all 140-plus Caremark franchises across the UK and Ireland.

We nominated Andrew for his dedication, patience and ability. His skills have had a profound impact on the life of a boy called Logan who has a profound intellectual disability with autism and other complex needs.

Andrew has shown huge resilience and consistency in the care he has given Logan. He helped to build Logan’s confidence and enabled him to enjoy new adventures. Additionally, he provided some important respite for Logan’s parents and younger sibling.

Logan’s mum Faye says of Andrew: “The smile Logan has on his face when he sees Andrew is unreal. He just loves him, and Andrew gets Logan, so they are perfect together and we would be lost without him.”

Instrumental in helping to expand Logan’s opportunities

It’s little wonder Andrew makes such an excellent Support Worker because he is a trained doctor. He worked in medicine in his native Nigeria for ten years before he came to the UK to do a masters degree in public health.

It was while he was studying that he took a job at Caremark Rotherham and Sheffield. This job became permanent after he completed his masters and decided he wanted to remain as a Support Worker.

Logan was one of Andrew’s first clients. He has been instrumental in helping to expand the 16-year-old’s opportunities and experiences.

He is Incredible and now it's official

My job means everything to me

Having been in the care industry for a long time and being a doctor has definitely helped me when it comes to Logan and the other clients I support,” says Andrew.

“I obviously see it from a different perspective now and it has been a learning curve. This is especially because clients like Logan are non-verbal and can’t really express how they are feeling.

“So, it’s about getting to understand them, being patient and lots of perseverance. This approach has really paid dividends between Logan and myself.

“I really enjoy my job and seeing the smiles on the faces of my clients. Seeing them gain their independence and improve their quality of life means everything to me.”

Invaluable training and great flexibility

Andrew says he is honoured to have been named as an Incredible finalist. He would like to thank Caremark Rotherham and Sheffield for the support he has received since joining us.

“I really appreciate everything they have done for me,” adds Andrew.

“The training I received was invaluable. They are a very family-friendly company who really respect and value their staff.

“I have a young family and they always try to be flexible when it comes to arranging shifts around childcare or the school run. This flexibility is important as my wife works full-time too.

“Working for the company and in this job couldn’t be any better for me!”
