Claire has made a positive impact on our lives

“Claire has made a positive impact on our lives. She supports me as a carer and my husband who has Alzheimer’s. Claire always arrives with a lovely smiling face and has a positive disposition. As well as being very caring and people orientated, she is willing to do any task which is asked of her and carries it out efficiently and effectively. Claire is kind, thoughtful and empathetic.”
That was what just one customer said when they nominated Claire Wright for our Care Assistant of the Year awards, which she won for the Redcar East area.
Claire joined Caremark Redcar and Cleveland five years but had previously worked in the complex care sector for over ten years, supporting children and young people.
Caremark are an amazing company to work for
She then took time out to look after her young son who was born with a condition which meant he had low levels of white blood cells.
Thankfully, her son’s condition improved over time and whilst he occasionally still needs medical support, it meant Claire could return to work part-time for Caremark.
“Anytime I get a call from my son’s school about his health, they always tell me to go to him immediately, they have a real family ethos.”
“They are an amazing company to work for,” says Claire.

The people you look after become more than just customers to you
Claire says having worked in complex needs, she found the transition to traditional homecare easy and she likes the fact she is able to care for the same customers.
“I have a bond with them all and they ask me about my children and love to see the photographs I show them,” she says.
“I treat them just like I do my own family and when I realised they had nominated me and I had won the award, it was amazing.”
Claire has some good advice to anyone thinking about working in homecare.
“You have to have that caring bone in your body and can’t just do it for the money because the people you look after become more than just customers to you,” she explains.
“There’s been days when I have been crying in my car because something’s happened in my family but as soon as I step foot in someone’s home I have a big smile on my face and to get one smiling back makes everything feel better.”
Claire has three children and is about to become a grandmother for the first time, something she is very excited about. She spends time taking her youngest son to football and enjoy being with her family and friends.
