Our Care Assistant Say: “You feel like your own boss”

After observing the quality of care provided to her late grandfather by Caremark, Sadie Dowson decided to pursue a career in home care rather than social work, which was her original plan as she pursued a degree in psychology. She was impressed by the patience exhibited by the carers towards her grandfather, who wasn’t always easy to care for, and recognized the significant impact that could be made in people’s lives.

Additionally, Sadie had some familiarity with Caremark due to her boyfriend’s mother working there, and after shadowing staff in her first week, she was eager to start working independently. She appreciates the flexibility of the job. In fact, it even allows her to visit her horse in between calls!

Her caring personality has endeared her to customers, leading to her promotion to Field Care Supervisor at the age of 21. Despite the challenge of supervising around 40-50 carers, Sadie has shown great managerial skills. She views her job as fulfilling and life-changing, not only for the customers but also for the staff. Sadie is proud of her accomplishments, including winning a carer of the year award in 2022, and recommends the job to others, noting that no two days are the same and there is more to it than meets the eye.
