It’s amazing the difference a good night’s sleep can make. Now, with the help of Caremark Mansfield & Ashfield, Paula Robinson can enjoy one every night.
Housebound due to a series of conditions, Paula was having to sleep in her armchair every night. Eventually she ended up in hospital.
That was five years ago. However, a care plan was drawn up and Caremark Mansfield now visit four times a day.
“I am bedbound and before Caremark I stank to high heaven and was losing all my strength,” said Paula.
“Now they help me settle in bed each night and then to get up and have a good wash every morning and use the toilet. It’s such a pleasure to sleep well, I feel much better and a good wash sets me up for the day.”
Caremark help me stay in my bungalow
Paula, 66, used to work as a fabric cutter before being medically retired.
She has lived in the same bungalow for 40 years. It’s where she raised her two boys with her late husband Dave who died from cancer in 2023.
“I have wonderful neighbours and my sons visit regularly. I want to stay in my bungalow and Caremark help me to do that,” she said.
Carers spend time understanding how she likes things done
An avid reader, with Mills and Boon and James Patterson novels a particular favourite, Paula also enjoys watching a good detective film or TV series.
“I look forward to my carers visiting, a chance for a chat and a cup of tea, they get ten out of ten from me,” said Paula.
She likes the fact that carers spend time to understand how she likes things done. This includes how she likes her food.
Toast needs butter and jam spread right to the corners. Scrambled eggs should be in a sandwich to keep them warm longer. Chicken breast with mange tout is a favourite. Boiled eggs done just right to dip soldiers. And on a Friday it has to be fish from her favourite chippy.
“They show me respect and that is very important, I wish I’d had them a lot earlier,” said Paula.
