A positive outlook on life
Born just after the outbreak of the Second World War, Margaret Burton has a positive outlook on life that has seen her through many challenging times.
And whilst she might not be in the best of health these days, she continues to look on the bright side of life. This is helped by her daughters Odette and Mandy, Caremark Mansfield & Ashfield’s home support team, Clint Eastwood, and Freddie Mercury!
“I’m very happy with my life and have what I need,” said Margaret.
“My daughters visit often and do my shopping and the carers pop in every day to help me.”
The carers are lovely, very kind and work as a team
A former factory worker, Margaret, 85, has lived alone for many years. As her Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease has worsened, her mobility has deteriorated. Consequently, she’s found breathing more difficult and requires oxygen.
Our carers visit four times a day to help her get washed and dressed. They check she’s ok and have a chat with her. Margaret also appreciates the help they give her around the house.
“They are lovely, very kind and work together as a team to help me,” she said.
“One will put the washing in, the next will take it out and then they will fold and put it away tidily, they take such care.”
Important to keep the brain ticking over
During the day Margaret likes to do puzzles books to keep her brain “ticking over”. Then she’ll settle down to an action movie.
“I’m not interested in anything sloppy, give me a good Clint Eastwood movie any day,” she said. “I do get excited, you can hear me shouting at the telly to warn him about danger.”
She also enjoys the music of Freddie Mercury and Queen. There’s a large, framed picture of the band hanging on the wall. Additionally, she has a collection of Freddie photos, jigsaw puzzles, and other memorabilia she’s accumulated over the year.
“As soon as his voice comes on I recognise it, very strong, he will never be forgotten,” said Margaret.
“I’ll often chat about him and all sorts of things with the carers and I look forward to seeing them everyday.”
