Recruiting in the health and social care sector

Recruiting in the health and social care sector has always been a challenge and that’s what makes Jemima White’s role at Caremark Leeds so important.

As Recruitment and Marketing Officer she is the first port of call when people contact us about working as Home Care Assistants, but it’s certainly not just the case of sitting in the office waiting for the enquiries to come in.

“I have to be proactive so that just doesn’t mean speaking to the people who contact us directly but also looking at the other things we have at our disposal when it comes to recruitment,” explains Jemima.

“So, I have to make sure our external adverts on platforms such Indeed and Homecare are up to date and appealing, as well as going out into the areas where we provide care to look at opportunities for getting the message out about Caremark.”

Jemima is a university graduate

Jemima joined Caremark Leeds in the summer after graduating from Leeds University.

As well as recruitment, she is also responsible for marketing, with a particular emphasis on identifying new privately funded care packages. Internal communications also come under her remit too.

“We don’t just want to recruit new Care Assistants but make sure we retain the ones we already have, some of whom have been with us for over five years,” she adds.

Celebrating length of service

“That’s why we recently introduced our Champions Club which formally recognises and celebrates length of service among our staff and now, when they come to our office, the people who work here can see their pictures on the wall, along with the level they are currently at with platinum (six years plus of service) being the highest.

“I also make sure we give out a carer of the month ward and I am currently working on our first-ever carer of the year award ceremony which is due to take place in January.

“I have learned so much already and am gaining valuable experience which I know will stand me in good stead as my career progresses.”

Outside of work, Jemima, who hails from London but now call Leeds home after a wonderful university experience, enjoys doing ballet, drawing, keeping fit and socialising.
