Creating a positive working environment
Muhammed Umar believes mutual respect between staff and management is an important factor in creating a positive working environment. This leads to improved care for clients. In our latest staff profile, he explains why this is definitely the case at Caremark Leeds.
Muhammed enjoys working in home care support with Caremark Leeds. He knows from previous experience that not all care companies have the same high standards.
“Previously I worked for a care company who had their license revoked,” said Muhammed. “I heard Caremark was a good company to work for. So I applied for a job. I’m pleased that I did.”
Muhammed has also previously worked in a variety of other jobs including takeaways, security and warehouses.
Home care is more rewarding than residential care
“I prefer home care support because you are out and about, not stuck in the same place for 12 hours a day,” he said.
“You meet different people every day and it is more rewarding personally.”
For Muhammed, 30, the key difference between Caremark and other companies is the working atmosphere.
The management are approachable and listen
“The management are approachable, you can raise matters and they will listen,” he said.
“This creates a good working environment. There are equal opportunities, the salary is good and there are plenty of hours available.”
Regular hours are important for family man Muhammed who has a newborn baby girl and a two-year-old son. Outside of work, his free time revolves around spending time with his young family. A trip to the beach at Skegness is a favourite day out.
He also aims to treat clients as if they were family.
“For some of them, we may be the only face they see that day. So it’s important to be on time, to be compassionate and to listen and chat,” he said.
“It’s key with any client to assess and understand, we are all individuals with our own particular needs.”
