A whole new rewarding career in home care

The covid pandemic lockdown resulted in many people needing to look for different jobs – and in Senait Berhe’s case it led to her discovering a whole new rewarding career in homecare.

Senait had recently moved to the UK and had been hoping to continue working in the retail fashion industry having spent 16 years in the sector when living in Dubai.

But that all changed from March 2020 when the world came to a standstill!

“When lockdown happened retail fashion closed down like a lot of other jobs,” said Senait. “I wanted to work and saw there were jobs being advertised with Caremark so applied.”

The rest is history

For Senait, the rest is history.

“That was over five years ago and I’m still here and loving my job,” she said. “Caremark have very supportive management, good training, and it feels like you are all part of one family.”

Senait says treating every client as an individual and following their specific and detailed care plan is the basis of good care work.

A trusting bond develops

“Clients like a regular routine and to get to know their carers,” said Senait.

“I have been visiting some of them in their homes for several years now. A trusting bond develops where they are comfortable with you and you are not only providing care but also that friendly, social interaction.”

Outside of work Senait likes to spend time with her husband and relatives. She still has lots of friends in Dubai she keeps in touch with and hopes to visit there in December – though she has no plans to return to retail fashion.

“I love my job with Caremark,” she said. “The work can be stressful and you have to be able to cope with that however the good thing is that management don’t add to that stress, they are very supportive.”
