when customers no longer need our care

Whilst it doesn’t happen often, there are occasions when customers no longer need our care and support services. When this does occur, no-one is happier than ourselves.

This was the case with the remarkable Linda Cartwright who defied her own doctors. They said she was unlikely to walk again as a result of CIDP (Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy). This is a rare autoimmune neurological disorder which causes progressive weakness, numbness, and impaired function.

“Initially they didn’t know what was wrong me. I came home after being in hospital and my ankle gave way at the top of the stairs. I broke it in two places,” she recalls.

“It took a while to be officially diagnosed. In between that time, I was in and out of hospital and even spent time in a care home.

“I couldn’t walk and because the condition also makes my hands tremble, I couldn’t feed myself either. Once the physiotherapy started, I was determined to return home permanently and walk again. Even though the doctors said this was unlikely to happen.”

The Care Assistants from Caremark were first-class

After her official diagnosis, Linda was put on IVIG (Intravenous Immunoglobulin) and started to improve.

She returned home and we began providing support to Linda and her husband David. She says he was a rock during this challenging time.

“The Care Assistants from Caremark were first-class and I can’t praise them enough,” says Linda.

“You never like to single just one person out, but Donna in particular was amazing.”

Sharing the good news with her doctor

Linda returned to see the doctor in March this year and was delighted to share her good news with him.

“I said you told me I wouldn’t be able to stand up or walk again but I had already walked some steps. I was improving each day,” she says.

“Now, I am walking and standing much better. With David’s support, I can move around the house and even go out in the community.”

Linda and David have been married for 37 years although they have known each other for much longer.

“I was married before David and I got together. We reconnected again during a scout leaders’ trip, so it was obviously just meant to be,” says Linda.
