Caremark Kirklees’ real time app means Brian Godfrey can ensure his father Roland is safe and being cared for at times when he can’t be there himself.

Having led a full and active life, the march of time has meant Roland, now 99, has faced increasing challenges.

Maud, his wife of 75 years, passed away in August 2023 and Roland has been diagnosed with dementia which is gradually worsening.

“We first approached Caremark Kirklees to ask if they could provide some daily cover as respite for us so we could go on a UK break,” said Brian.

“We were impressed at how quickly things happened. Within two days a care plan had been arranged.”

This included giving Brian details of the online care app.

“Everything about Dad’s care is recorded within minutes of it being delivered. We can log on wherever we are and see at a glance that he has had his medication, eaten his meal and all the other care that has been provided.”

Roland now receives daily visits from Caremark on top of the regular visits by family.

“Dad still recognises us and the carers, but his short-term memory has deteriorated. He has difficulty remembering if he has eaten or taken medication, so the app gives us peace of mind in knowing he is being cared for at times when we aren’t there,” said Brian.

“Communication is very good. The other day a carer told us they’d noticed Dad’s ankle was swollen so we were able to book a GP appointment to get that seen to.”

Roland is still able to get up and dressed every day and recently attended a coffee afternoon organised by Caremark where he met other clients, something Brian says his dad enjoyed.

“If Dad loses track of time the carers can help him get ready and then take him to the coffee afternoon which a taxi couldn’t do,” said Brian.

“Without Caremark it would be very difficult for us to provide the care needed to enable Dad to live at home.”
