New community initiative in Dewsbury

Caremark Kirklees has launched a new community initiative in Dewsbury which is designed to bring people together. The initiative also aims to combat loneliness and social isolation among older residents in the area.
We have introduced a bi-monthly coffee club at the Woodland Court Extra Care Housing Scheme. This club is open to the company’s customers, families, friends, and staff. People living at the scheme can also attend.
The informal gatherings offer free refreshments and cake, creating a relaxed space for conversation and social interaction. This is particularly valuable for customers who live alone.
The new initiative also aims to strengthen relationships between families and care assistants. It does this by giving relatives the opportunity to meet the carers who support their loved ones each day.

Expansion into the northern areas of Kirklees
The launch of the Coffee Club coincides with Caremark Kirklees’ recent expansion into the most northern areas of Kirklees. Consequently, people living in areas such as Heckmondwike, Cleckheaton, Mirfield and Dewsbury now benefit from the company’s award‑winning homecare services.
It follows the success of a Coffee Club in Huddersfield launched in 2023. The Huddersfield club grew so quickly that it had to be moved to a larger venue. The new location was the Sandy Mount Extra Care Housing Scheme in Crosland Moor. This accommodated everyone who wanted to attend.
At the first Dewsbury Coffee Club, live music was provided by local entertainer Lindsey J Moore. She also brought her guide dog Iris to meet everyone.
A huge difference to someone’s wellbeing
Fiona Smith, Director of Caremark Kirklees, said: “We’re delighted to have been able to launch our second Coffee Club. Now our customers and families living in the north of Kirklees can benefit from social interaction and companionship each month.
“It’s always great for our staff to be able to spend some quality time with the people they support each day. Additionally, they can get to know their family and friends as well.
“Something as simple as sharing a cup of coffee and a conversation can make a huge difference to someone’s wellbeing, confidence, and sense of belonging. That’s at the heart of our mission as a local care provider.”
The next Coffee Club in Dewsbury will take place on Friday 3rd July. Caremark customers interested in attending can call 01484 211281.
