Epilepsy Awareness and training for staff
Caremark are committed to ensure that their Care and Support Workers are always up to date in their training and skills to be able to fully meet the individual and possibly complex needs of their customers.
The Epilepsy awareness training has 4 stages:
STAGE 1 – exploring the meaning of the term epilepsy, including defining the term, the prevalence rates and the causes of epilepsy.
STAGE 2 -explaining the different types of seizures an individual may experience, including generalised, simple and complex focal seizures, absences and tonic seizures, atonic and myoclonic seizures.
STAGE 3 – learning how seizures can be triggered and the common risk factors associated with epilepsy.
STAGE 4 – describing the different treatment options for epilepsy. This includes medication and other treatment options, how to apply first aid for an individual experiencing an epileptic seizure, the role of other professionals and the importance of an epilepsy care or support plan.
