Caremark Family – Helen
“It’s so lovely, it really isn’t like work”
Hello, I’m Helen and I’m a Care Assistant at Caremark, providing home care in Harrogate and Knaresborough. I’ve been part of the Caremark family since 2015. I’m still here after 8 years, so I must be doing something right!
I’ve always been interested in looking after people and first started out as a nanny, before training to become a play group leader. The family I nannied for owned a group of nursing homes and it’s because of them that I started working as a carer. When they retired and moved away I completed my NVQ in care and became a care assistant.
I love being a care assistant, proving home care in Harrogate and Knaresborough. It’s not really a job and it never feels like I’m going to work. Some people dread going to work in the morning, I look forward to it.
I wouldn’t say that going to work is like going to see friends, it’s a bit different to that. You have a purpose, going to visit them to help them make their life easier but in an enjoyable way. Making someone smile, and maybe even giggle is the main part of it for me. I have a lovely time at work and we have such fun together. People really like having the company of a care assistant.
I even pop into the office for a coffee and a chat as often as I can. My colleagues in the office are getting quite good at making my coffee just the way I like it.
When I’m not working I enjoy reading – anything at all! I like a wide variety of novels, but my favorites are gory thrillers with murders. There’s nothing quite like curling up with a good book and having a cuddle with my two very affectionate pugs, Alice and Julie.
We’re so happy that Helen is part of our family in Caremark Harrogate
