Ealing Hospital has reached an important milestone by earning Joint Advisory Group (JAG) approval for its Endoscopy Services.

As a result, this approval places the service, which performs more than 4,800 procedures each year, among the top endoscopy units in the UK.

An endoscopy allows doctors to see inside the body using a long, flexible tube with a camera and light, called an endoscope. Therefore, it’s a key tool for diagnosis.

The success, led by Dr. Sohail Shariq and service manager Shantal Martin, came after two earlier attempts failed to meet the Royal College of Physicians’ strict guidelines. However, their persistence and dedication led to this achievement.

Dr. Charlotte Bearcroft, an endoscopist at Ealing, said, “We’re thrilled to have this recognition. It means a lot to us and reassures patients they have top-quality service close to home.”

Moreover, the approval process took nearly two years. During that time, the unit had to meet strict standards in patient care, clinical results, training, and leadership.

Now, the unit is working to return to its pre-pandemic average of 6,500 procedures per year while maintaining its 100% patient satisfaction rating.

In order to keep the approval, the unit will submit paperwork annually for the next four years. Additionally, a full inspection will take place in the fifth year. The process includes a commitment to ongoing improvement, expansion, and better patient care.
