A Day at Fair Play’s Networking and Open Day Event
Today, Ben, the Care Manager of Caremark Chesterfield & Bolsover had the pleasure of attending Fair Play’s networking and open day event in Chesterfield. It was a fantastic opportunity for him to meet and connect with other service providers from the voluntary, private and public sectors, and to learn more about the amazing work they do for the community.
Fair Play is a registered charity that supports children and young people with disabilities in North Derbyshire. They offer a range of services, such as after school clubs, holiday playschemes, youth clubs, parent support groups, independent living groups and home-based care. They also have a purpose-built centre in Chesterfield that provides accessible facilities for the children and their families.
The event was held at Fair Play’s centre and featured a wide variety of stalls from different organisations. Ben had great conversations with representatives from:
- Derbyshire Live Better: a service that helps people to improve their health and wellbeing by offering support with physical activity, weight management, smoking cessation, alcohol reduction and mental health.
- Derbyshire Carers Association: a charity that supports carers of all ages across Derbyshire by providing information, advice, advocacy, respite, training and emotional support.
- The Elm Foundation: a domestic abuse charity that offers confidential and non-judgemental support to anyone affected by domestic abuse, including refuge accommodation, outreach support, counselling, children’s services and group programmes.
- Direct Education Business Partnership: a service that connects schools and businesses to provide work experience opportunities, careers guidance, enterprise activities and employability skills for young people.
- McIntyre: a national charity that supports children, young people and adults with learning disabilities and autism by providing education, care, employment and lifelong learning opportunities.
- Monkey Park Community Interest Group: a social enterprise that runs a community hub in Chesterfield, offering a bike workshop, a café, a co-working space, meeting rooms and various events and activities.
- PayPacket: a payroll support service that helps people who employ carers through direct payments or personal budgets.
- Just Good Friends: a befriending service that matches volunteers with older or isolated people who would like some company and friendship.
- Relate: a relationship counselling service that helps couples, families and individuals to improve their relationships by offering counselling, mediation, sex therapy and education.
- Derbyshire Law Centre: a specialist legal service that provides free and independent legal advice and representation on social welfare law issues such as housing, debt, employment, immigration and discrimination.
Ben was impressed by the diversity and quality of the services available in the area and learned so much from the people he spoke to. He also enjoyed the delicious cakes that were baked by volunteers from Fair Play and Monkey Park. They were a real treat!
