For Tom Bright, working in care has shown just how much of a difference the right support can make to people’s lives.

Since joining Caremark Great Dunmow in April 2023 as a Care Coordinator, he has seen first-hand how compassionate, reliable home care can help people feel safe, listened to and able to remain independent in their own homes.

His own journey also reflects Caremark Great Dunmow’s commitment to developing staff and promoting from within. With the support and encouragement of the team, Tom progressed into the role of Business Support Officer and has more recently earned promotion to Deputy Manager.

Being connected to the community

Before joining Caremark, Tom had spent time working in different industries and was looking for a role closer to home in Great Dunmow. Living locally was an important part of his decision to join the team. He wanted to work somewhere where he could feel connected to the community around him and play a part in supporting people who live nearby. For Tom, that local connection makes the work especially meaningful, because the people Caremark supports are not just customers — they are part of the same wider community.

In his day-to-day role, Tom supports many of the essential tasks that help the service run smoothly. This includes assisting with care coordination, supporting reports and office processes, helping with background checks before invoicing and working closely with colleagues across the office and care teams. He also continues to use the knowledge he built as a Care Coordinator, helping to oversee daily arrangements and make sure customers receive the right support at the right time.

Good home care can be a real lifeline

What Tom enjoys most about working in care is the difference it can make to people’s lives.

“Good home care can be a real lifeline, particularly when customers or their families are unsure where to turn for help,” he explains.

“Whether supporting communication with a GP, helping resolve a practical concern or making sure someone feels listened to, it’s important to be patient, compassionate and dependable and that is what sets Caremark apart.

“I find it incredibly rewarding building positive relationships with the people we support and understanding that no two individuals are the same, which is what makes working in care so meaningful to me.”

Outside of work, Tom is a keen football fan and a loyal Arsenal supporter. He enjoys following the team and, when he is not watching football, he can often be found doing a less stressful hobby – fishing.
