Give home care a try in Great Dunmow
Charles Munhuweyi has a clear message for anyone considering a career in care – put aside the negative stereotypes and give home care a try.
“People told me such negative stories, saying I wouldn’t last but I am really enjoying the job and have found everyone to be helpful and welcoming,” he says.
Charles and his wife both work in the care sector, having moved to the UK from Zimbabwe with their two young sons. He previously worked for another care provider. However, he chose to move to Caremark Chelmsford and Uttlesford in search of better opportunities and more flexible working hours.
With a young family to support, Charles values the ability to work a flexible schedule.

Flexible hours to suit peoples’ lifestyles
“Moving to a new place with a young family you have bills to pay. I needed more hours and Caremark have been great,” said Charles.
“The hours are flexible so you can work during the day, evenings or weekends, whatever suits your lifestyle.”
He has been particularly impressed by the training and ongoing support provided by Caremark. This includes practical instruction on using equipment such as ceiling hoists and rota stands. As a result, he can support customers with mobility needs safely and confidently.
Before joining the care sector, Charles worked in a pharmacy. This gave him previous experience with medicines and communicating with people about their health.
He enjoys being active in his role and values the opportunity to meet different people. He also likes making a positive difference in their daily lives, rather than working in a desk-based job.
Studying for further qualifications in care
Charles currently works full-time with Caremark and is studying towards his Health and Social Care Level 3 qualification. He hopes this will support his progression into a supervisory role in the future.
Charles believes that being a good carer requires hard work, empathy, honesty and the ability to provide emotional support.
He adds: “You are going into people’s homes, helping them with medicine and also with shopping and other tasks. I have never had a negative experience with a customer, if you act professionally they appreciate the help and will be on your side.”
Outside of work, Charles enjoys spending time with his family and going cycling. His children have settled well into school. Furthermore, he is looking forward to a family seaside holiday later in the year. They will stay at a caravan park with plenty of activities for the boys.
