A more fulfilling career in care

Before she entered the world of care, Kate Aleem worked as a Business Analyst, a job, which on paper, sounds great with good money, bonuses and career prospects. But staring at numbers on a screen just wasn’t fulfilling enough for Kate. Therefore, she decided to do something completely different and took a job working part-time as a Support Worker for Caremark Rotherham and Sheffield.
She enjoyed it so much that when she was given the choice between returning to her old job in London or joining Caremark full-time in Yorkshire, she chose the latter. Thankfully for us, and her clients, she hasn’t looked back since.
Kate has forged great bonds with her clients, especially Lady Nat a client who has an acquired brain injury. Kate supports Lady Nat to do the things she enjoys, such as ten-pin bowling, bingo and watching movies. Additionally, they spend time together.

“I love being on this care journey”
“What means the most to me in the world is the time I spend with my clients,” says Kate.
“It’s the small moments like the conversations you have and helping bring something meaningful into their day.
“I see it as a journey and one I love being part of.”
A supportive and caring work environment
Kate says whilst it’s important to always be professional, it is difficult not to get attached to the people she supports.
“They don’t feel like clients but good friends or family,” she adds.
“But that’s also the same for my colleagues at Caremark. I didn’t have many friends before but by being here I have made new friends and connections and I feel seen and supported, which is important to me.”
